SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN!

And some days ago I was watching cartoons with my little cousin. He was thrilling watching “Special Agent Oso”. The cartoon didn’t keep my attention more than one minute, but it did a sentence that “Oso” repeated every time he had to solve a problem: “Sounds like a plan!”.

Not sure, if it was this sentence, or if he was the Oso “oso-meness” but I decided to make a plan myself. In less than three months, it’s gonna be my birthday and I’d love to be on time with some video projects that I have shot this year and haven’t published. These videos are some projects aside my goal of establishing Chinchilla Films as Film Company in my country, Colombia. However, these are videos that I’d love to share with you outside following Chinchilla, because we had so much fun when we did each of them.

So, I made a list like someone who’s following a plan of the videos that I’d be publishing for the next three months, so you guys can follow whether I’m able to complete my plan or not:

1. First video, is a mini-shortfilm that I did in a workshop with wonderful iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, who visited my country for the first time this year.

2. A video that we shot on the colombian mountains with fellow filmmakers Winnie Cheung and Christopher Paz. It’s based on the “Magical Passes” by hispanic writer Carlos Castaneda. Starring: Or Illan.

3. And finally, after a year we will release the documentary “Pajarito Pinta’o”, shot last year in NYC and following the life of colombian dancer Daniel Fetecua.

Yes, definitely sound like a plan!

SUENA A RETO!

Definitivamente, suena a reto!

COPUT

And last month I had the joy of shooting the first performance of COPUT. A japanese band based in Brooklyn that has been experimenting for a while searching for a very particular sound on their music. You judge yourselves. * Recommended to turn off the light to watch the colors better:

KAPUTT!

Last week I had the opportunity to shot the first commencement concert of COPUT. A japanese-Brooklyn
based band. Great location for a great undefined music band. We’ll soon upload the video but here some pics of the night:

Por ahora unas fotos: — in New York, NY.

And yes, the tittle in this post is “kaput” as in german: “finito”.

YO NO SE – CHAPTER 1

A few months ago, I started to work on a music video for new yorker band “The Books”. Weeks of pre-production have passed since, until last week that we finished the shooting part.  One of the biggest concerns was to get the location. You’ll see …the music for this video has a very industrial, dusty almost post-nuclear atomic bomb sound. So, is the choreography created by Alan Danielson. As a director of the video, I wanted to shoot in a location with similar characteristics. A location that will act as another “character” of the video, not just as an ornament. For some, stinky smell that I sensed one day (which is very common in the streets of new york along with a wide variety of multicultural smells), I came with the idea of shooting in a fish market. Thanks to Arii, whom previously knew the biggest fish market on NYC , we went there at 3 am a couple of times trying to do some research. The location was perfect and it would it been perfect only if the manager would it like the idea of some “filmmakers” messing up with his fish. Anyways, after a flat “NO” ( I tend to be very persuasive), I had to look for other location immediately.

That was when I began a crusade along the boroughs looking for an abandoned place in NYC. I went to the top of Harlem, went down to Coney Island, head south to Rockaway and east to Greenpoint… But guess what? There are not such a thing as an “abandoned” place in NYC. Not at least, as we expected to be: a place that nobody cares while it’s been consumed by time and dust.  And that was the thing: the abandoned places in New York are owned for rich people wanting to build condominiums, or under security guards. Of course, I’m not naif or pretentious not to know that this city is huge and is a daily discover for something new. So, if anybody that is reading this knows about an actual abandoned place in NYC, it will be lovely if you share the information with us.

Meanwhile, I’m leaving some pics of the fish market along with some of other places that we found during the scouting:
